As I recall, he was an excellent trumpet player. Sorry for your loss.

Uncle Dave u will be sincerely missed. I will always treasure the memories when we were kids and you and your family would come to visit in Iowa at Grandma and Grandpa's on the farm. We had so much fun when you would come to visit. They are memories we will always cherish. You were an inspiration to many. Rest in Peace Uncle Dave, you will be missed.  I am sorry my mother isn't well enough to be there to pay her respects. She loved you dearly and would have wanted to be there. Know that you will always, now and forever be in her heart. God Bless you and your family.

David,  You were a man of many talents.  I have enjoyed so many times listening to you play the piano, trumpet, guitar, trompone, and listening to you sing.  I loved when we would just sit and talk about your past and see the love in your eyes and the sound of your voice.  I will never forget some of our times together, the day Bro Wilson was buried and the concert you gave me.  WOW, such a great memory, to hear your boisterous voice as you sang of your love for Jesus.  The many tears that fell the day I came to tell you Grandma Wilson had passed away.  The strong hug you gave me as tears flowed down your cheeks as you told me how special of a mom she was.  You loved your family deeply, and when you would tell me about some things it really was obvious how much.   I will always be impressed that one of the last times I saw you, you did a 100 pushups while I was watching, and didn't break sweat.  Most can't do that at any age.  I would love the excitement when I would stop in with food, and you would tell me how good it was, but if it had some honey and oats in it, it would be better for you.  LOL...you were an amazing person.   I know your family will miss you, I will keep them in my prayers.  David, YOU my friend I know are in Heaven where you can see the KING OF KINGS, be in the BAND OF OUR ALMIGHTY, and walk on streets of GOLD with no fear of someone hurting you.  David tell Grandma and Bro Wilson hello for me, give them a hug, I am sure they were at the gates waiting your arrival.  Rest easy and enjoy the mansion that you have earned with your many good deeds that you have done on earth.  I will always remember you and how great of a man you were.  I loved you.

Everyone remember Uncle David for his gifts. No one can deny his talent for playing the trumpet or his gift of singing, which has inspired so many (including myself). He certainly played a part in my own love of singing.  Some of the fondest memories of my childhood were my trips to Louisville to visit Uncle David and his family, and their annual visits to see us in the summer. These were among my happiest times. So many wonderful memories, both in Iowa and in Kentucky--like hiking to Clark's Tower in the Winterset City Park, visits to Holiday World or seeing Stephen Foster's "My Old Kentucky Home," family picnics and even driving to youth camp or being in convention together in Kentucky.   I was never close to my own father, so I looked up to David and believed my cousins to be among the most fortunate of all the children I knew. I know that situations were not perfect, later in life, but I am blessed to remember most the good times, the laughter, the Godly influence, the love and belonging. That, to me, was what it meant to see and be around him.    I'm sure that, many times, I was a third wheel, but I was so grateful to be included. The fact that he allowed me to be so meant more to me than all the gold in Fort Knox.  I carried with me hurts that I never spoke of--wounds so deep that a faint sting can still be felt today--but my time with David and his family was a balm that did more to sooth my mind and spirit than any of them will ever know.   The picture on this site captures well the way I remember him. I know that I told him several times, but I don't know if he ever really understood how much I loved or admired him. David was a passionate man, who felt things deeply, and I have always identified with that part of him.   My heart still feels deeply the love that I felt back then. I cherish the memories he gave me. I am saddened by his passing, but it is good to know that his mind is now at rest and that his eyes can see things I can only imagine.
