The house & family gatherings will be quieter, absent of Dennis’ memorable laugh and humor. Our hearts, missing a piece. Our lives, though, are forever enriched simply by having Dennis a part of it.
Mr. O’Bryan was born August 11, 1954, in Louisville, KY to the late Thomas “Sam” & Mary Lee (Hohmann) O’Bryan. Dennis was born into a devout Catholic family, being the fourth of seven children. Growing up in the Highland Park area of Louisville, he attended St. Leo the Great Catholic School. He then spent two years at Desales High School, before transferring to Durrett where he graduated from in 1972. Upon graduating high school, Dennis went on to become a Chemical Plant Operator at United Catalyst. He retired after 36 years, rarely missing a day of work.
During his time at United Catalyst, Mr. O’Bryan also became a father to his proudest accomplishments, his children Marty, Tiffany and Heather. Despite his ailing health in recent years, his children & family were always his will to keep living.
Dennis met the love of his life, Sherry. The two married on October 23, 2004. Together, they shared a love of animals, nature, and the great outdoors.
In his golden years, Dennis was able to devote more time to his love of horseback riding, leisure farming, hunting, and outdoor living. These were hobbies that he loved to share with his family. He put many miles on his beloved horses…grazing trails all over Kentucky and Indiana on weekend trips with his wife. He believed in the simple things in life. Like, the freedom of an open field on the back of a good horse & the companionship of a good dog. He was happiest spending days on his farm enjoying his new truck & old tractors…just like his old jeans & new boots. This is how Dennis will be remembered-a hardworking, simple, funny, family man.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Rita O’Bryan Watson.
Left to cherish his precious memories are: his wife, Sherry O’Bryan. His children; Dennis Martin “Marty” Jr. (Amanda) O’Bryan, Tiffany (Charles) Beneke; stepdaughter; Heather Chesher. Grandchildren; Sam O’ Bryan, Trey (Samantha) Pursley, Hunter Beneke, Mya Weddle. Great-Grandchildren; Brayden, Kinley, & Bristol. And, a Great-Niece, Karma. He is survived also by his siblings; Tommy (Annette) O’Bryan, Joyce (Billy) Minturn, Sandy Settle, Pauletta (Steve) Haines, Michelle (Bill) Abell, and brother-in-law Phil Watson. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with interment at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm.
