

Mr. George John Herbert, III, age, 82 of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in his home on June 16, 2024. He was born in Louisville, KY on August 4, 1941, to the late George Jr and Thelma (Rankin) Herbert. George proudly served on the Louisville Fire Department for 30 years from 1961 – 1991 and he also served in the National Guard for 8 years. George married the love of his life, Betty, on May 12, 1962, and went on to have a large family who he spent time with as often as possible, including attending any sporting event to watch them play. George liked to sit and have a drink with a good rum and watch the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his son, George IV, his sister Peggy Gray, and sister-in-law Jude Herbert, as well as his niece, Nancy Gray.
He leaves to cherish his legacy his wife of 62 years, Betty Herbert, his 2 children Jennifer Taylor (Jeff), Joe Herbert (Kim), and daughter-in-law Becky Herbert. His grandchildren George ‘John Herbert V, (Megan), Aaron Herbert (Brittni), Jaclyn Mills (Jason), Bryna Wicker (Jason), Ramiro “JR” Gandara, Benjamin Taylor (Mary), Madelynn Gandara (Edgar), Great-Grandchildren Allie, Lincoln, Sadie, Emersyn, Weston, George VI, Amara, Landon, Grayson, Davis, Tate, and Lee. His siblings Alice Herbert, Doug Herbert, Kathy (Gilbert) Durbin, Betty Herbert, Greg (Janet) Herbert, Tony Herbert, and brother-in-law Mike Gray; as well as a whole host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday June 21, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. A Funeral service will be held in the chapel at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy at John Harper Freeway) at 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 22, 2024. With cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Crusade for Children in his honor.
