Harold Thomas Atherton, Sr.,

Mr. Harold Thomas Atherton Sr., age 85, of Brooks, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on July 6, 2024. He was born on September 8, 1938, in LaRue County Ky., to the late Otis Edward Atherton and Elnora (Underwood) Atherton. Harold retired after 32 years of service with General Electric, he was a member of Knopp Ave Holy Baptist Church, he was a Mason in the Zoneton Lodge #964 F&AM. He enjoyed camping, he was an avid walker, and a Volunteer Firefighter with Zoneton Sub Station #2. He was a loving husband of 62 years to his late wife Shirley Ann, and a wonderful father to his six children and loving papaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley Ann Atherton, his son Darrell Atherton, daughter Shirley Darlene Selby, sister Margie Gerkins, and brothers Bobby and Glenn Atherton.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children Tommy Atherton (Diana), Terry Atherton (Kathy), Daniel Atherton (Laura), and Michael Atherton (Angela), 13 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren, sister Linda Zehner, brother Raymond Atherton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear family and friends. 

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with interment in Brookland Cemetery.  Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday July 10, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday July 11, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
