Herman Lucion Sego, age 94 of Louisville Kentucky, entered into a perfect rest while surrounded by the love of family, friends, and the Lord’s comforting spirit on December 30, 2025. He was born to the late Willie and Dora Sego on December 27, 1931 in Edmonson County Kentucky. He grew up in a community known as Little Jordon in Mammoth Cave where he loved to roam the hills and hollows while hunting and fishing.
At age 12, he knelt at an old-time altar at Stockholm United Baptist Church where the Lord rolled his heavy burden away. When telling his experience, he said for 12 years he tried searching for something more, because he never shouted. All of the individuals that he had witnessed get saved had all shouted, so he thought there was more. In 1955, while attending a service at Zion United Baptist Church, his father-in-law, Elbert Davis, asked him to think back if there was something he would hold onto if he were to die that day. As Elbert began to sing “I Remember All About It”, Herman said immediately his mind went back to that altar at Stockholm, and all he could do was smile. As the Spirit moved upon him, he often testified, “I still haven’t shouted, but one day I’ll sing and shout forever more.”
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he obtained the rank of corporal. He was granted an honorable discharge on December 28, 1954. While on furlough, he married his first and only love, Eva Lee Davis, on December 23, 1954, and to this union, their boys, Michael, Barry, Carey, and Ryan were born.
Herman retired from General Electric after 33 years of service in 1986. He was a self-taught mechanic and loved working on cars and could fix just about any type of machine you can think of. He enjoyed helping others and fixed many cars and appliances of his Christian brothers from his church and sister churches.
Herman and Eva Lee loved the Lord and put him first in their lives. They joined Fairdale United Baptist Church in 1966 and Herman was ordained as a Deacon on July 14, 1968. They both remained faithful members until their passing.
During the Sunday evening service at Fairdale on December, 14 2025, Herman testified of the hope he had in the Lord and the many blessings he has received. He also affirmed his intentions of serving the Lord as long as he could. This was his last testimony.
Herman loved and would often quote the scripture, “Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” Ofttimes, he talked about the importance of putting the Lord first in life and how many blessings he received while walking in those old paths. He has said many times, “It’s been worth it all when I see my boys, grandchildren, and great grandchildren walk into the church house.”He was a godly example to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Rev. 14:13
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Eva Lee; all of his siblings; Christine, Chester, and Pauline; a daughter-in-law, Leveda; and 2 great-grandsons, Draven Hughes and Laken Keown.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Michael (Terri), Barry, Carey (Sherry), and Ryan (Jennifer); grandchildren, Tabitha Hughes (Chris), Shaina Alvey (Josh), Brent (Jessica), Blake (Heather), Kayla Blondin (Devin), Anthony, Kara Keown (Cody), Mackenzie, Dalton (Madison), and Grayson; 19 great-grandchildren as well as a host of other dear family and friends.
The services for Mr. Herman Sego will be posted at a later date.
