Jane "Starkey" Cowan

Mrs. Jane Cowan, age 93, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She was born in Merriam, Indiana on August 14, 1929, as an identical twin to the late Joseph and Lena (Smith) Starkey. Jane was a teacher at Lebanon Junction High School, Shepherdsville Middle School, and Blue Lick Middle School. After retiring from teaching, she worked for Seven Counties Services providing Respite services to families. She was a member at Hebron Presbyterian Church for 60 plus years, where Jane also sang in the choir. She was a Ball State University grad and completed her master’s degree from University of Louisville. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, puzzles, books, and traveling the world, along with painting, and antiquing. Jane was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Jane was proceeded in death by her husband John William Cowan, her parents, and sisters Joan Tobey, Mary Ellen Adams, and brothers Woody Starkey, and Donald Starkey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Mike Cowan (Barb), her daughter Patty Hagan (Mitchell), daughter Kim Cowan, son Eddie Cowan, daughter Leigh Shader (Rob), grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Patrick (Amanda), Joel, Sophie (Josh), great-grandchildren Aaron, Levi, Lydia, sisters Nancy Larson (Fred), Shirley Hile Schlotterback, sister-in-law Lois Starkey, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.

Funeral service will be held Monday, January 30, 2023, at 12 noon at Hebron Presbyterian Church (4765 N. Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, Ky 40165). Luncheon to follow at Hebron Church activity building after burial.  Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday January 29, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy at John Harper Freeway). Burial to follow at Hebron Cemetery on Monday after funeral service.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hebron Presbyterian Church or Bernheim Arboretum.
