Jean Burden

Jean Burden, age 82, and resident of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born in Louisville, on Sunday, January 9, 1944, to the late Clarence and Delta Philpot.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother Billy Joe Philpot.

Those who knew Jean understood that her creativity was not confined to any one place—it showed itself in the way she lived. Her garden was her happy place, tended with care and patience, and her art offered another window into a life shaped by imagination and color. She also found simple joy in the comforts of good food, especially her fried chicken livers and her veggies—and in the peaceful pleasure of spending time in her pool.

Jean’s memory will be held with respect and affection by all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband of 49 years, Willard Burden; her children, Keith Smith (Sandy), Dana Hornback (Tony) and Brittney Burden Wheatley (Norman); her grandchildren, Kieran Smith (Katt), Kyle, Ryan and Evan, Rhiannon Smith; Megan, Olivia, Nathan and Corey Hornback and Payton Wheatley; a great-grandson, JJ; her sister, Yvonne Hill along with a host of other family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, 4895 N. Preston Hwy. Family and friends may pay their respect on Sunday from 1pm till time of service at 4pm.
