

Mr. John Cooper Hurst, age 81, of Shepherdsville returned to his Heavenly Father on February 17, 2025. Mr. Hurst was born on April 23, 1943, in Newport, Tennessee to the late Joseph and Mary (Cooper) Hurst. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech earning a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He had achieved a successful career at Naval Ordnance retiring after 30 years of service and then working for United Defense. He attended various churches and was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church. John was a master mason with Suburban Masonic Lodge #740 F. & A.M. for over 50 years. Mr. Hurst served as an NSRA safety inspector for over 20 years and was a member of the Obsolete Car Club for 25+ years. John enjoyed tinkering and restoring street rods, walking along the waters of Hilton Head, and beautiful moments in his hometown of the Smoky Mountains. Among those that preceded him in death are his parents, and daughter, Jennifer Picheo.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Becky (Wells) Hurst; daughters, Jeaninne Hurst-Emory (Tim) and Emily Hurst-Jones (Jeremy); grandchildren, Logan Emory, Madison Picheo, Cooper Emory, Lucy Jones, Lily Jones, Lane Jones, and Luke Jones; sister, Janice Hurst-Williams; son-in-law, Mike Picheo; and special family member, Peggy Wells Greene.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Little Flock Baptist Church (5500 N. Preston Highway Shepherdsville, KY 40165) with interment in Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 3-8 pm at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road) and Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service at the church.
