Mr. Larry Landon Edwards, age 77, passed away January 1, 2022. Mr. Edwards was a longtime resident of Shepherdsville, KY. His health had been failing for several months and he passed peacefully in his sleep with his son, Wayne Edwards and niece, Betty Edwards at his bedside. Larry was born June 30, 1944, in Schenectady, NY to the late Daniel R. and Mary Ann (Landon) Edwards. The family relocated to Louisville in the mid-1950’s. Larry was a twin, his brother Terry Alan Edwards predeceased him January 8, 2010.
Larry attended Seneca High School and Ahrens Trade School, both in Louisville, KY. His passion was automobiles, engines and racing. His typical personal automobile had a big V-8 and 4 speed transmission. His most prized vehicle was his father’s Pontiac Firebird, purchased new in 1969 and meticulously maintained since his father’s passing in 1982. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Larry drove a racecar, often competing on the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville. This was a skill he later passed to his son Wayne and grandson Trevor. Growing up, Larry said he wanted to be a mechanic and live in Shepherdsville and that’s just what he did. After graduating from Ahrens, Larry was first an automobile mechanic at Boower Chevrolet dealership in St. Matthews. He later moved on to larger diesel engines and components. At one point, he was servicing mining machines and worked on one or more of them in a mine.
Larry first married Joyce Beechboard, this marriage produced his only son Wayne. After they divorced, he married Norma Franklin, who predeceased him in May 2020. She had two sons (Donnie and Gary Franklin) by her previous marriage. Larry is survived by his son, Wayne Edwards; grandson, Trevor Edwards (Sarah); great-grandson, Sawyer Edwards; nieces, Betty Edwards and Jeanne Edwards-May (Jeff), along with their children and grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Melanie (Edwards) Taylor. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Prentice Ethington and Tom Priddy.
