Louis Mearl Ballard, Sr.

    Mr. Louis “Mearl” Ballard Sr., age 91, of Holy Cross, KY returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 24, 2022.   Mr. Ballard was born in Marion County, KY on December 3, 1930, to the late Joseph Clarence Ballard and Mary Caroline Jessie Grant Ballard.

     He was retired from the Solite Rock Quarry, was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church and a member of the Local # 89 Teamsters.

    Besides his parents he is also preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters.

    He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Grace Riggs Ballard, having united in marriage on September 25, 1954; two daughters, Debbie Wicke (Gordon) and Rita Cissell (Rodger); two sons, Louis Mearl Ballard, Jr. (Lisa) and Kevin Ballard (Arlene); eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

    Mearl was very strong in his faith, attending church regularly, starting and ending each day with a prayer.  He always had a big smile on his face, loved his family, dancing, especially to “Rocky Top” and Fall City beer.  He was proud to be the last of fifteen children.

    Funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road) with burial to follow in the Hebron Cemetery.  Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, from 3 pm until 8 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am until time of service at the funeral home.
