Robert Eugene "Gene" Bates

 Robert Eugene (Gene) Bates, Sr. age 88, returned to his Heavenly Father on December 12, 2018. He was born in Whitesburg, KY on March 22, 1930 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Tandy and Lonnie (Bates) Bates. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 89. He lived his life for the Lord, was known as a loving Father and a mentor to many.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tandy Bates, Elmer Bowen; and sister, Gladys Lucas.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Billie Pennington (Kenneth), Sherrie Taylor (Ricky), Jr. (Dianne), Barry; companion, Elsie Sullivan; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; sister, Euldene Duncil; and brother, Bobby Bates (Rosa).

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home ( Brooks Rd. at Preston Hwy.), with entombment in Hebron Cemetery at 10:00 am on Monday, December 17, 2018. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
