Shirley Dean Huff was born on Sunday, November 18, 1934, in West Point, Kentucky and passed from this life on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, surrounded by his family which was a fitting reflection of the way he lived, always close to those he loved most.
From an early age, Shirley learned the value of hard work and responsibility. At just 17 years old, he began working at Ford Motor Company, where he would faithfully serve for 45 years until his retirement. In his younger years, he also served his country in the United States Army in Oklahoma and later in the reserves.
Shirley married Inez Shepherd, and together they built a home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, where they raised their three children: Fonda Tinnell, Dawn Allen, and Dean Huff (Vicki). During those years, Shirley became a devoted member of Bullitt Lick Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for approximately 50 years. His faith was steady and evident, not only in what he believed, but in how he lived, loved and served others.
After the passing of Inez, Shirley was blessed to marry Sharon Disney. They shared 32 years of marriage and made their home in Brandenburg, Kentucky. Through this union, their family grew to include four stepchildren: Tara Powers (Martin), Dina Hackert (Jeff), Heather Belisle, and Matthew Disney. In all, Shirley’s family grew to include 20 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waymon Huff and Lois Daley Anderson; his sisters, Georgia Daniels and Patsy Mabrey; his brothers, Ray Huff, Vernon Huff, and Maxie Huff; his first wife, Inez; and sons-in-law Donnie Tinnell and Bobby Allen.
Shirley was known as a man of integrity, a faithful provider and someone who deeply loved his family and The Lord. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with friends and loved ones and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats. He had a gift for telling stories and was rarely without a smile.
Above all, Shirley’s life was anchored in his faith. He gave his life to the Lord and remained committed throughout his days, even reading through the Bible seven times in his later years. His life reflected a quiet strength and a steady devotion that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Shirley’s life is one of faithfulness. He was faithful to The Lord, his family and work. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and the generations that follow.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home in Brooks, from 1pm to 7pm and on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Bullitt Lick Baptist Church at 11 am till time of service at 2 pm; with burial to follow at Bullitt Lick Baptist Church Cemetery.
