Betty was born in Tacoma, Washington to Elmer and Nanna Bender. She was predeceased by her brothers, Nathaniel and Edwin Bender. Betty attended Garfield High School and graduated from the University of Washington. She married Gene George (now living at Warm Beach/ Stanwood, WA) on December 20, 1941; in subsequent years, they had three children -
Richard, Susan (Merry) and Marilyn (Gregory). Dick passed away in 2011; Susan lives in Boise, ID and Marilyn lives in Seattle. Betty is survived by three grandchildren {Brent Merry, Michelle DelRosso, Sarah Gregory), three great-grandchildren (Ashley, Jackson, Olivia) and many nieces and nephews, all of whom dearly loved their Aunt Betty.
Words cannot express what a kind and gentle spirit Betty was. She made a lasting memory on every life she touched. She was active in her sorority (Pi Beta Phi), Girl Scouts, Seattle Milk Fund, and especially her church, University Methodist Temple, where she was a member for over 60 years. She retired from Pacific NW Bell at age 70 and was fortunate to travel many times to Europe and Asia. Betty was a life-long learner, and participated in the Elder Hostel program. For twenty years, at Christmas time, she was part of the Santa Goodwill Tours, visiting those in need throughout the world while spreading good cheer.
Those of us close to Betty will always remember her saying, "What a beautiful day to be glad in!" ~ We loved her so.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 20th, at University Methodist Temple, 1415 NE 43rd St, Seattle, WA 98105; all are welcome.
