Andrea Fisher Eklund, 91, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 after a prolonged illness. She was a longtime resident of Loganville having first moved to Snellville, Georgia in 1974. Andrea was born on April 19, 1934 in Quincy, Massachusetts to parents, Thomas Anton Fisher and Celia Mae McKiel Fisher. She was one of four siblings in a close knit family. Many of her fondest memories were of spending time with her siblings and her grandmother.
Andrea married Frederick Eklund on September 26, 1953. It was a beautiful wedding and she was especially fond of sharing a story about her dress from the famous Filene’s Department Store. Decades later, she still used the damask table cloth that covered her cake table. The couple were both creative and avid builders. They built and decorated two houses and had five children during their marriage. Her favorite vacation as a couple was a dream trip to Bermuda. They enjoyed a marriage of 24 years until Frederick’s passing.
She graduated North Quincy High School in 1951. Andrea was quick and clever, skipping grades and graduating early. She had considered a career in nursing but instead went on to build a successful career at the Federal Reserve Bank in both Massachusetts and Georgia. After retiring she pursued a second career with Sears Roebuck where her talent in design led to being in charge of redecorating the ladies apparel departments in stores throughout Georgia.
Andrea was a talented seamstress and could sew anything from a simple apron to elaborate upholstery projects. Always eager to try a new craft, she excelled at needlepoint embroidery but was best known as a very talented amateur baker specializing in custom cakes. There was no cake idea too big or too complicated - she once recreated an entire Monopoly Board on a cake!
She enjoyed traveling, baking, crafts, and hosting events. Things that were out of proportion tickled her fancy. Andrea had a fascination with miniatures and created many dioramas. She was a gifted hostess and parties were full of good food, enchanting details, and fun activities.
Andrea was a founding member of the Grayson chapter of The Red Hat Ladies and created many memories with her Gadabout Gals chapter. She was a preschool teacher for North Gwinnett MOPs for several years. Andrea was a devoted attendee of Highlands Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed participating in many acts of service and fellowship. She especially loved helping to plan the senior citizen themed dances.
If you had the pleasure of meeting Andrea, you will have experienced her warm welcome, kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine gracious nature. You would certainly have been invited to have a cup of tea. Andrea was a great lover of tea parties, large and small. She had an impressive collection of tea cups and themed tea pots. On her last birthday, she lovingly invited each family member to select a favorite cup and saucer to keep for themselves.
She was especially proud of not only her New England roots but also of her Scottish ancestry. She could trace her roots back to the Muir, Smith, Gillis, and Mackeil clans.
Andrea was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Diane Fisher Conger; her husband, Frederick Eklund; and her son, David Eklund.
She is survived by her brothers Paul Fisher and wife, Maya; Philip Fisher and wife, Mary; along with many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by Alex McGill, her special friend for over a decade.
Her children lovingly referred to her as Mum. Her surviving children are daughter Diana Eklund McConnell and partner, Dan; son Dean Eklund and wife, Cathy; daughter Dorina Eklund Winslow; and son Doug Eklund and wife, Kimberly.
She was the best Grammy ever to her six grandchildren: Jesse McConnell and wife, Amy; Erica Winslow Roberts and husband, Tim; Ben Winslow and partner, Miranda; Olivia Winslow; Andrew Eklund; and Arden Eklund.
She truly enjoyed her role as Great Grammy to her three great-grandchildren, Henry Winslow, Dorian Winslow, and Brandon Roberts.
