Passed into Eternal Life on Monday, April 13, 2026 at age 84.
Beloved mother of Amy (David) Krysiek and Edward (Cindy) Chess. Proud grandmother of William (Melissa) Krysiek, Elizabeth Krysiek and her husband Daniel McCormick, Benjamin Krysiek, Emily (David) Forrest, Megan Chess, Matthew Chess, and Lauran Schmidt. Cherished great-grandmother of Leo, Nico, and Zofia. Loving sister of Jesse (Rose Ann) Hogg, and his children Laura (Tom), Bill (Linda), and JW. Beloved aunt of Jennifer Chess and her husband Don Bachouros, and their children Merrill (Alex), Lee (Steven), and Halle.
Betty was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Frank Chess Jr.; her loving son, Frank Chess III; and her beloved parents, Bill and Blanche (Elliott) Hogg.
For over 40 years, Betty was a teacher and, later, principal at the former Notre Dame Catholic School in Hermitage, PA, where she spent her career educating and helping to shape the Christian lives of primary school students. Betty was also a long-time associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Later in life, Betty loved attending Catholic Mass, visiting with grandchildren, volunteering at the St. John Neumann/Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, being outdoors in the Georgia sunshine, occasionally drinking bourbon and water over ice from a tall glass, and playing casino games. She also enjoyed watching Law & Order and Everybody Loves Raymond on TV, and singing along to old Beach Boys and Neil Diamond tunes. Betty adored the compassionate staff and her fellow residents at Dogwood Forest of Grayson, the assisted-living facility where she spent the final 18 months of her life.
Betty will be remembered for her quick wit, sly smile, the blazing speed at which she could propel her wheelchair and, most of all, her deep love of family and the strong connections she nurtured across generations. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:30 am, followed by Funeral Mass at 11:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church (801 Tom Smith Road, Lilburn, GA). Private burial will be held at a later date at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
