Bobby Lloyd Wright
January 26, 1938- December 15, 2016
Our Brother, my husband, our dad, our Grandpa/Pepaw, everyone’s friend, Bobby Lloyd Wright aka SkiBob, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016. He would have been 79 on January 26th.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of nearly 44 years, Lynn Sanders Cantrell Wright of Snellville, GA; his daughter, Bobbie Lynn Wright Wages and husband Todd of Loganville, GA; his son, Brannen Wright and wife Cindy of Williamson, GA; 4 grandchildren-Taylor, Bradley, Drake, and Jersey; 3 brothers-Jerry Wright of Clermont, FL; Pete Wright of Greenville, SC; Wayne Wright and wife Dianne of McDonough, GA; and several amazing cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bobby was born in Anderson, SC. He and his brothers grew up in the Wellington Mill community. He attended Anderson Boys High School and Forrest College. He served 3 years in the US Army in the early 60’s, was stationed at Ft Bragg, NC, and rose very quickly to the rank of Sergeant E-6. He was a decorated paratrooper and very proud to have served his country and to be a part of the 82nd Airborne Division. We think he had over 50 jumps out of a perfectly good airplane!! He was a loyal member of Snellville Church of Christ since 1982, where he served many years as a Deacon. Bobby was a runner and also an avid snow skier, he ran in countless road races, and several Peachtree Road Races. Bobby and his family have snow skied all over the US and in Canada, oh and he was a huge Elvis fan too! He worked for and eventually became owner/operator of Wordgraphics Inc. in Atlanta. After 34 years in the graphics business, he dissolved the company and “retired” which gave him the perfect opportunity to follow his dreams of owning his own Sno-Cone business again—SkiBob’s Frosty Sno-Balls”!
Bobby’s childhood experience along with his passion for snow skiing is what inspired him to become SkiBob! In his own words, Bobby explains how it all began…“SkiBob’s Frosty Sno-Balls is the culmination of a lifelong love affair with the sno-cone business. When I was a kid of 10, my granddad and I built my first sno-cone wagon; simply an insulated wooden box, mounted on two bicycle wheels, with handles like a wheelbarrow. I rolled that wagon for six years, shaving ice by hand from a 100 lb block of ice, and selling sno-cones for five cents each. I was even allowed to take it to school and sell sno-cones at recess! I had the time of my life and made more money than any kid my age that I knew of. I have never forgotten this experience of my youth…”
He sold snow cones in the summer and snow skied in the winter, this was all by design you know! He dedicated over 13 years to the sno-cone business and spent time at many Gwinnett County parks. On opening day 2004, SkiBob found his home base at Bay Creek Park in Grayson, GA where he truly became a member of the family. SkiBob was loved dearly by all of the families that visited Bay Creek Park, whether they were there for a ball game or just to enjoy a day at the park, SkiBob was genuinely happy to see them! He knew many kids by name and would put a smile on their face every time. We’ve been told many times by members of the Grayson community that SkiBob made lasting impressions on their children and is a huge part of their memories at Bay Creek Park. In 2016, his daughter and son-in-law decided to continue his legacy and keep SkiBob’s Frosty Sno-Balls alive at Bay Creek Park and in the community.
Bobby’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
