

Doris, affectionately known as “D,” grew up in Ward, South Carolina. She attended Ridge Spring-Monetta High School, where she played varsity basketball and was the salutatorian of her class. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she remained on the Dean’s List all four years. She later earned her Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law.
Doris built a distinguished career in public service. She served as an Assistant District Attorney for Dougherty County, becoming the first Black Assistant District Attorney in the county’s history. She later served as an Assistant District Attorney for Fulton County and retired as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby; her son, Robert; and her daughter, Elizabeth “Austin.” She is also survived by five siblings: Tommie (Evangeline) Williams of Ward, SC; Willie James (Annie Ruth) Williams of Trenton, SC; Ernest (Renee) Williams of Columbia, SC; Donald Williams of Johnston, SC; and Lesa (Kevin) Jones of Accokeek, MD, along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and dear friends.
Doris enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, and thrifting with her daughter. She was an avid fan of Star Trek and, later in life, developed a love for fishing which became one of her favorite pastimes shared with her siblings. Known for her kindness and generosity, Doris touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
