Flor Maldonado left this world peacefully in her sleep on December 28, 2020, at her home in Loganville, GA. She will be remembered as a loving wife of nearly 59 years and a caring mother, grandma, great-grandma, and friend.
Flor Hereñia Avendaño was born in El Salvador on February 15, 1946, to Eduardo and Clara Luz Avendaño. On February 18, 1962, Flor married the love of her life, Cesar Maldonado. In 1965, Cesar moved to the U.S. to make a better life for their family. Flor followed with their two oldest girls the next year. Together the couple raised four daughters: Mayra Evans (Tom), Kathy Curbelo (the late Robert), Nancy Hendricks (Russell), and Cindy Correa (Jorge). Flor delighted in her twelve grandchildren (and three grands-in-law), Sean, Kara (Rob), Marcus (Renata), Kristina, Elena, Jeremy (Reece), Jordan, Julia, Logan, Tyler, Andrew, and Natalia, and her three great-grandchildren, Aria, Lyla, and Dani.
Flor and Cesar were world-class travelers. The couple took a cruise together every year, and have visited many countries, including Spain, Cape Horn in Argentina, and Prague. They were planning to visit Turkey in 2021. Flor loved to shop and to watch HGTV and her Spanish telenovela. She loved her family, friends, and church family at Calvary Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA. Flor will be remembered as a dedicated and passionate wife and an inspiring mother and grandma who drew family and friends close and will be missed greatly by all who loved her.
In remembrance of Flor’s life, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
