Mr. James D. “Jimmy” Drummond, age 71, of Snellville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was born on December 31, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia and was the son of the late Rev. Harold G. “Sonny” and Hortiez “Tessie” Porter Drummond.
Jimmy was a Deacon and faithful member of Lenora Baptist Church teaching the men’s Adult Sunday School class for many years, singing in the choir, and always enjoyed singing with the Lenora Quartet. Over the years he worked in various fields before becoming a self-employed paint and construction contractor the last 20 years. Jimmy was particularly proud of the 10 years he spent with the Gwinnett County Fire Department in its infancy. Being one of the first men hired when the department was initially formed, he was one of the first men certified in the State of Georgia to be Fireman. Jimmy was also a certified paramedic and reached the rank of Lieutenant before leaving the GCFD. He was always in construction of some form, as was his father and brother, so no matter what field he was in primarily, he would still work with his brother or cousin, often working three jobs at a time to raise his family.
Along with his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by the mother of his sons, Sandy Hewatt Drummond; his brother, Harold G. “Hal” Drummond; brother-in-law, Michael Hewatt; sister-in-law, Teresa Wade.
He is survived by his sons, J. Douglas Drummond and Jose R. Montenegro of Houston, Texas, Terry W. Drummond of Decatur, and Jesse C. and Stephanie D. Drummond of Lawrenceville; granddaughters, Scarlett and Sadie-Lynn; sister, Diane and Andy Holder of Eatonton; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Spain of Stone Mountain, and Bobby Wade of Good Hope; and sister-in-law, Dee Hewatt of Stone Mountain, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends also survive.
A Service honoring the life of Mr. Jimmy Drummond will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Lenora Baptist Church, 4136 Lenora Church Road, Snellville, with the Rev. Terry Briscoe, Rev. Tim Royster, and Rev. Jesse Drummond officiating. The family will receive friends as the calling hour one hour prior to the service at the church.
