Kyle Anthony Gregory was born on June 9, 1996, the first son of Dawn Allison Bristol and Lloyd Anthony Gregory. Kyle was an adored son, grandson, great grandson, brother, nephew, great nephew, cousin, and friend. Growing up in New York City, Kyle was a very active and sociable child who greatly enjoyed sports and recreational activities, whether it’s playing handball and basketball after school or just having fun riding his bike, bowling or doing martial arts. Kyle also loved playing various instruments. As any typical child, Kyle enjoyed video games, board games, and action figures, but he also loved reading books, and he excelled in his academics. Kyle was close to and loved his family. He didn’t miss an opportunity to play with his siblings at home and at the parks or to watch wrestling or the movies with them on the weekends.
After moving to Georgia at the age of 13, Kyle attended Alton C. Crews Middle School for a year, where he continued his love for playing instruments in the school band and continued to touch and warm the hearts of many.
Kyle went on to attend Brookwood High School where he played percussion for the drum-line before joining the school’s Junior Varsity, then Varsity football teams. Kyle's time at Brookwood was filled with joyous and fond memories. His upbeat, friendly nature and the team-loyalty he displayed left positive impressions on everyone he met, from teachers and coaches to friends who would stick with him for life.
After graduating in the Class of 2014 from Brookwood, Kyle attended Georgia Southern University where he majored in Electrical Engineering, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. While at Georgia Southern, Kyle continued to embrace everyone he met with his warmth, generosity, and humor. While he enjoyed partying and traveling, he was also studying hard to achieve his career goals. Even after the passing of his father in 2018, Kyle continued to persevere with his academics and graduated in the Class of 2019 from Georgia Southern.
Kyle had just been employed at Alion Science and Technology in Warner Robins, Georgia, at the start of March 2020 when COVID-19 brought the world to a standstill. In July of 2020, a month after his 24th birthday, Kyle started feeling ill with a tickle in his throat. After getting tested for COVID-19, Kyle utilized at home remedies while awaiting test results. Kyle had developed more symptoms and became severely ill before checking himself into Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins. Kyle was soon diagnosed with pneumonia before his test results confirmed he was positive for COVID-19. Kyle spent the next week fighting both infections, keeping in touch with his family and friends by cell phone, because of the hospital's no visitor policy for patients being treated for COVID-19. Kyle fought for his life and his loved ones, but unfortunately, lost the battle with the infections and passed away from complications of the treatment on Sunday, July 19, 2020.
Kyle leaves behind cherished family, friends, and all those he has touched during his life.
Kyle’s life was like a light that lit many candles along his journey, and though he may not be with us in form, we honor his life by keeping the light of his spirit of generosity and love glowing in our hearts, growing in our lives and giving to our world.
