Leila Velma Blount (Cain), a woman known for her sweet spirit and a sharp eye for a typo, passed away peacefully in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on January 28, 2026, following several years of declining health.
Born in Buford to JC Cain Sr. and Velma Cain, Leila remained a proud lifelong resident of the area, graduating from North Gwinnett High School. Her life changed forever at the Lawrenceville Dairy Queen, where she caught the eye of William Blount while he was "cruisin’" with friends. That chance encounter led to a beautiful 58-year marriage.
Leila was a dedicated professional, serving the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Lawrenceville for 20 years before finishing her career at Southern Trenching Company, where she worked until her retirement in 2008.
Her faith and community were the cornerstones of her life. A member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 35 years, she cherished her outings with her senior Sunday school class. She was also a vibrant presence at the Lawrenceville Senior Center, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of the Red Hat Society and the Get Up Go Club.
Leila had a zest for the simple joys: long phone calls with friends, meeting new people, and reading the daily newspaper—though she rarely finished an article without circling a few spelling or grammar errors. A lover of music, one of her favorite memories was the night she took the stage to dance "The Twist" with Chubby Checker himself.
She is survived by her devoted husband, William; her daughters and their spouses: Julie (Lynn) Holder, Cathy (Russell) Malone, Patti (Russell) Knick, and Amanda (Brent) Alexander. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Ashley Eyler, Kristen Holder, Chelsea (Josh) Jones, Tiffany Malone, Brian (Ivanna) Malone, Maddison (Matthew) Dean, and Dawson Knick; her 11 great-grandchildren; and her beloved grand-dogs, Archie, Edith, Herschel, and Georgia.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Eternal Hills Funeral Home (3594 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA) on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
Leila’s smile and kind heart will be profoundly missed. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during this time.
