Lyman Chatfield Thompson Sr.
lived in Monroe, GA and passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. He was born in Coosa County Alabama on December 13, 1927. Lyman was raised in the Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Margaret Clayton Thompson, whom he was married to for 56 years. He leaves behind daughters; Rebecca T. Steele (Richard) of Toccoa, Ava C. Wojcik (James) of Good Hope; son, Lyman C. Thompson, Jr. (Renee) of Monroe; 10 grandchildren, Keith Steele (Sally), Brett Steele (Kristy), Melissa Perry (Leland), Kim Dykes (Gary), Jay Crawford (Liv), Nina Goodrum (Weston), Rebecca Dowell (Brent), Jessica T. Preston, David Nackino (Odessa), Nikki Snipes (Kenneth) and 18 Great Grandchildren who he adored. Lyman’s social life was surrounded by extended family that he treasured as his very own.
Lyman was an avid golfer and a member of the USGA as well as Senior Golfers Association of Atlanta. In his younger years he played tennis with USTA and ALTA. He loved to fish, garden, play cards and the marble game of TOK. At 97 years old, he remained living independently in his own home with the care of family, friends and visiting angel, Robin Davis. His cup overflowed with goodness and love all the days of his life.
There will be a brief graveside gathering on July 8 at 10 am at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens in Snellville, GA. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, August 10 at 3 pm at the Wayfarer Hotel Music Hall in Monroe, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to CURE Childhood Cancer curechildhoodcancer.org in honor of his great grandson Austin Steele or AIM at Melanoma Foundation www.aimatmelanoma.org in memory of Charlie Whiting.
