Services for Mr. Manuel Martinez Aguero, of Stone Mountain, GA will take place on Friday, Jan 6th 2017 starting with visitation at 9:30AM in the church narthex followed by a funeral mass at 10:30AM at St. Stephen the martyr Catholic Church in Lilburn, GA where he was a parishioner. He will be buried at 12:30PM at North Atlanta Memorial Park in Dunwoody. Manuel passed to eternal life in his Stone Mountain home on Monday, Jan 2nd.
Born in Balcarce, Buenos Aires, Argentina on the 23rd of July, 1930 he was a faithful and loyal husband and a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kay, his daughter Maria Gabriela, his daughter Elisabeth, his son Rafael (daughter in law Cecilia, grandson Sebastian and granddaughter Evangelina), and his son Miguel (daughter in law Mesely, granddaughters Sofia Belen and Teresa and soon-to-be-born grandson Lucas Yosef).
Manuel grew up by the ocean in the beautiful city of Mar del Plata where he learned the value of hard work as a young man. He studied education in Argentina, did graduate work in Philosophy and Theology in Italy, and received Masters degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin and in Labor Economics from the University of Michigan. Throughout his varied professional positions, from hands-on work to teaching and management, he maintained a vivid concern for the wellbeing of workers and their families. He loved nature, seeing it as a reflection of God's love and was an avid reader. In his later years, he delighted in watching soccer and in writing poetry for many family celebrations. He had an infectious laughter.
After having suffered a respiratory crisis from myasthenia gravis, he spent the last two months of his earthly life at home surrounded by the affection and care of his wife, his children, his daughters in law, his grandchildren and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, prayer is most appreciated by the family. For those interested, donations can be made in his memory to HarambeeUSA Foundation (http://harambeeusa.org/about-us/harambee-usa/) or in support of any of Pope Francis's charitable efforts towards the most needy.
