Marilyn Dawn Miller Fitzgerald, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on November 14, 2022. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Sam Miller, brother Ronald Miller, and husband Ernest Billy Fitzgerald. A native Atlantan, Marilyn grew up in the Virginia-Highlands area and graduated from Bass High School. She will be deeply missed by daughters Dawn Moore (David) and Kerri Artime, along with grandchildren Lesley Poole (Chip); Tracey Brownlee (Kary); Sallye Mohn; and Christian, Callie, and Connor Artime. Others include great-grandchildren Brooke, Brittany, and Bryce Brownlee; Ashley and Sean Poole; Asher Artime; and Justin, Jake, and Joe Mohn, as well as several nieces and nephews.
“Miss Marilyn,” as she was called by the preschool children of Smoke Rise Baptist Church where she taught for over 20 years, was a dedicated daughter, wife, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who loved each person in a special way. She had a passion for all the children in her orbit, and they loved her in return. She loved Coca-Cola and music, especially Elvis, and in her own way danced until the very end! Her love of life was contagious. She always had a smile and kind word to say and was even selected as the “Happy Lady” for a Walmart commercial to represent one of their happy shoppers!
Since 2013, Marilyn resided on the Personal Care floor at Campbell-Stone in Sandy Springs. In 2016, she was honored by the Sandy Springs Rotary Club and given a Certificate of Achievement as a Resident Volunteer for her kindness and outgoing personality to prospective residents. Marilyn’s family would like to thank all of those who so lovingly cared for her at Campbell-Stone, as well as those from WellStar Community Hospice who cared for her so compassionately in her final days.
Prior to the celebration of Marilyn’s life and internment at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, her family will receive guests from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA.
