Peggy Bryant

Peggy Joyce Gowen Bryant, 90, passed away peacefully at Clearview Regional Medical Center in Monroe, GA on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. Peggy was born on April 14, 1925 in rural Arkansas, the eldest child of Houston and Iva Cox Gowen. She grew up in Knobel, Arkansas and graduated from Knobel High School in 1944. After graduation, she was employed by South Central Bell in Paragould, AR, the transferred to the Memphis office, where she met her future husband, Paul Duane Bryant. Peggy and Paul married on July 25, 1947 and Paul’s job moved them to Atlanta. Their daughter, Renee, was born in Atlanta and in 1960 the family moved to Stone Mountain, where Peggy was a stay-at-home mother. Peggy enjoyed gardening, reading and her church. She especially enjoyed hosting her Sunday School Christmas party each year. In 2006, Peggy moved to Loganville, near her daughter. After suffering a stroke in 2011, Peggy moved to Southern Plantation Assisted Living. She soon became very fond of the staff and often enjoyed teasing them. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Paul, in 1997 and her parents Houston, who died in 1971, and Iva, who died in 2005. Peggy is survived by her daughter Renee Crosby and husband Allen of Loganville, and her brother Larry Gowen and wife Sue of Fayetteville, AR. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Farrell and Shirley Gowen and her sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Raymond Fox. Her favorite bible verse was John 14:2 (KJV): In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. A funeral celebration will be held at Mountain View Baptist Church, 4618 Redan Rd., Stone Mountain, GA, at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2015. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Melwood Cemetery.
