Runette Ashworth Saltee of Lilburn, GA, was born on March 1, 1919, to Lon R. and Effie Kennedy Ashworth of Lawrenceville, GA, the fifth of seven children. She was a native Georgian, educated in Gwinnett County, and lived in Atlanta, Decatur and the remainder of her life in Lilburn, GA. Her life experiences had her evolving from country girl to a well-read and traveled woman who always strived to educate and better herself. She was just as comfortable on the farm as a child as she was with technology as an adult, a computer whiz at mastering the art of Googling and sending emails with attachments. Runette had a great sense of humor and went to great lengths for a good laugh or a well-played prank. Her family was the most important thing in life to her and she extended her love to the people around her in her own unique ways. She was a lifelong and active member of Mount Carmel Christian Church, back as far as the original location on Candler Road in Decatur. She was a homemaker for most of her life, raising five children and was involved in all of their activities. Runette faced all of the challenges of her lifetime head on, with quiet strength and unmatched wit. She was self-sufficient, determined and was always thinking ahead. Her memory was beyond belief on dates, names and time. Not to be deterred when she was widowed at a young age, she embarked on a career with the C&S Bank of Atlanta, now Bank of America, in the Customer Service Department. She retired from there after many years of dedicated service. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, loved to shop and dress fashionably. She was a fine example of a true southern lady, a fabulous cook, and always made sure there was plenty to eat at her house. Her love of gardening is a story all to itself. She was blessed with a green thumb and there was always a prolific vegetable garden and flowers galore. She enjoyed ordering all types of seeds and plants through the Farmer's Almanac and was a walking encyclopedia for gardeners. After retirement and being a widow for ten years, her family circle continued to grow with her marriage to Lawrence Saltee in 1982. She became like a Mother to his three children and their families. She was a loving wife, supportive and loving Mother, caring Grandmother, devoted sister and best friend to many. In addition to her parents, Runette was predeceased by her sisters Annie Lou McMillian and Pauline Harper; her brothers LaGrand Ashworth, Leroy Ashworth and Ray Ashworth; her husband, Charles M. Green, Jr.; sons James Larry Green and Charles M. Green, III; Grandchildren Robert Green and Tina Ferris; Great Grandchildren Kaitlyn Taylor Heist, Jeremiah East and Infant Michelle Runette Markel. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of almost 35 years, Lawrence T. Saltee; daughters Janet Glenn (Larry) of Lilburn, GA; Gloria Keenan of Bluffton, SC; Darice Heist of Monroe, GA; Daughter-in-Law Barbara Green of Snellville, GA; Linda East (Norman) of Oxford, AL; Lucia Wilcox (Scott) of Enterprise, AL; and sons Larry Scott (Sharon) Saltee of Daphne, AL; John Windham (Sharon) of Montgomery, AL; sister Clydene Nalley of Lawrenceville; Grandchildren Richard Green; Randy Green; Daniel Green (Buenita); Chris Heist (Jeannie); Julie Hubener (Jeff); Bo Glenn (Karen); Brooke Dupree (Travis) ; Brad Keenan; Katie Hazelbaker (Newton); Shawn Jones (Bobby); Don East (Connie); Dennis East; Alex Kalagian (Nikki); Paul Kalagian (Dani); Susanne Markel (Bart); Adrienne Gray (Jon); Larry Saltee, Jr. (Sarah); Jeff Windham (Sharon); Jerrod Windham (Courtney); and was blessed with an abundance of treasured Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
