Tyler and I were not the closest friends. To be honest, I didn't know him very long.  He knew how to turn my frown upside down instantly. His energy was so contagious. He is the type of person that just lights up the whole room.

He is unforgettable in the best way.

I'm not sure why but I haven't been able to stop thinking about him. I can't think of beluga whales without thinking of Tyler. The same goes with old Disney movies lol. I really miss you. 

Also, I apologize for not being so eloquent with my words. You know that isn't my strong suit.

Tyler was hired the moment I met him,  a few short days before we opened our first Bubblecake store. He was put first employee! I can still see him in my memory as if it was yesterday. He was hired to work the sales counter, and fast became an apprentice baker and an invaluable addition to our starting crew. None of us could possibly have anticipated the tidal wave of business, press, and 80 hour work weeks we found ourselves in, and Tyler was down for all of it!  Tyler was a creative, funny, humble, kind and quick-learning asset to what became a pretty large operation, as we swelled from a tiny staff of 5 to over 25 very quickly. He was a teenager, yet an integral part of what our company became and is today, ten years later. He gave so much to everyone around him. The loveliest person. When he moved away, we never forgot him. We have always missed him and always will.

I remember one of the first times Eric watched Tyler when he was just a baby. Mary had to go to work so Eric was going to be alone with this tiny little boy. He was very nervous. Here is this big guy a tough guy afraid of a little baby so what does Eric do right call his sister. I was a little nervous myself not of Tyler but Mary had this huge and ugly spider as a pet and I knew it was going to eat me but I went. There was Eric holding this little guy with smiles on his face and a stupid grin. He just melted into this baby while feeding him. I saw in his face for the first time that he was home. His very own home in this baby's eyes and his journey in life had just begun.

Tyler and I met when we were around 15 years old. The first night we started talking, we stayed up talking until it was light outside. That was just the beginning of many...he became my first love. So many days walking home from high school together, getting ourselves in trouble, watching any and every movie. One time he attempted to ride his skateboard to my house in the pouring rain to see me. When Tyler eventually moved to Georgia, we would plan weekend getaways to cities halfway between GA and VA so we could still see each other. Those trips hold some of my fondest memories. We were so young and I’m pretty sure we broke each other’s heart about a hundred times over the last 12 or so years but no matter what we stayed connected. Tyler was the person I could reach out to whenever I needed someone to talk to. Anything I needed to say or let out, he was there to listen. It didn’t matter how much time had passed we always checked in to see how the other person was doing. I’ve never had a friend that I felt closer to and I don’t believe I’ll ever have that again. Soonday, Tyler.

 I only have the one really small memory that was of significance. Anything else was mostly text or our work related interactions. One night years ago, the family invited me to watch a Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin  PPV fight. I ended up staying the night. He showed me his paintings and we talked about everything, refusing to sleep even though I was dozing on his shoulder. He had such a way of viewing things, and I loved talking with him. He had this affinity for older typewriters, and took me to his room to show me. I don't remember much about the typewriters themselves. I remember being too worried that I wasn't supposed to be in his room. I don't know why that's what I focused on. I guess because I respected the family enough to worry about what they might think. At a later time, having a text conversation, it was discussed that he didn't know how I felt about him. I asked how he didn't know, as I kept laying on his shoulder all night. He got somewhat frustrated, but also amused. He said something along the lines of "I gave signals too! You think I wanted to show you typewriters? It was a reason to bring you into my room!" And I laughed pretty hard that this goofball's big game was to show a lady some typewriters. It still makes me smile thinking about it. He's probably the only man in history to use typewriters in attempt to get a girl, and I'll think of him every time I see one now. ❤️

I apologize for showing up late to the service and didn’t get to introduce myself.  I met Tyler thru James and RJ.  He was always one of the kindest and warmest people I have ever met.  In the parking lot we were sharing stories of Tyler and laughing about the good times.  I felt like I should be really sad (which I am) and not laughing and joking but realized that was Tyler for you, always bringing a smile.   Here is one of my funnier stories of Tyler.  
     I was working as a barback at Church bar and Tyler came in.  He had a few drinks and put on one of the church robes they have upstairs.   Somehow Tyler managed to get into a fight with another guy wearing a church robe.  It was almost comedic watching two grown men fight in church robes but I had to split them up.  Eveytime I did within 5 minutes they were back at it again.  I think in one round one of them pulled the robe over the other one’s head.  Anyway I finally pulled Tyler aside and told him he had to leave or the manager was going to call the cops.  In his jolly and level headed way he immediately stopped fighting and said “Well since its you Russell I’ll stop fighting and leave”.  He was very nice about it and we said we’ll catch up to each other soon and he left.   Going to miss that guy he was one of the best.

I was moving to a different apartment and asked Tyler to help. Now, whenever you ask friends to help you move, you always half-expect them to find a lame excuse.

This wasn’t the case with Tyler. He was more than happy to drop everything and help simply because that was the type of person he was.

While there, instead of actually packing and moving much, Tyler ended up sitting with my father, drinking like old pals, pranking my insane roommate. They had just met. 

This is who Tyler was to me; an immediate and immensely personable person with a heart of gold that no one could, in their right mind, possibly dislike.

I only knew Tyler through the pickup soccer games we would play over at Ebster but immediately you could tell how much of a loving person he was.  His smile and laugh were contagious. You will be missed tremendously. Rest in peace man. 

Any day spent with Tyler was a great day. I couldn’t help but be happy in his presence. He had a way about him that made me feel instantly at ease, joyful, hopeful, and free to be my truest self. He was fun. He was FUNNY. He could make me smile and laugh effortlessly. One flash of his bright, genuine smile or one second of his flriendly, warm hug could turn my day around. He once accompanied me on a post-breakup dress shopping day. I was a sad, lonely, sobbing mess. Tyler stayed himself in the dressing room waiting area pulling me dresses from the floor and giving me emotional and fashion support like a best friend or a mother would. He was there for HOURS and never once did his enthusiasm, kindness, or smile break. He rebuilt my confidence and hope that day. I’ll never forget it. Tyler was a true friend, healer, artist, goofball, and hero. I’ll love and miss him forever. I love you, Eric and Mary. Thank you for raising a person that has done so much good in my life and in the lives of so many others. Below is the photo that Tyler sent to me side by side with a photo of my daughter that he thought was him when he first saw it. I delighted it the thought that they are kindred spirits. I will always feel that way. ♥️

I have so many fond  memories of Tyler it's hard to pick favorites. The first memory I have of Tyler is of  at my birthday party in 2nd grade at the local Putt-putt place. The next clear memory I have is being in the same freshmen English class in high school. The seats were arranged in a way where he and I were basically facing each other from opposite sides of the room. I remember thinking "Oh, I think I went to elementary school with that dude. He's pretty cute". It was almost impossible to not accidentally stare at each other with how the desks were arranged. Oh to be 14 and awkward as hell. Eventually we started making funny faces at each other and rolling our eyes in sync whenever a classmate did something ridiculous. And from those looks sparked young love. He introduced me to so many good bands, books, movies. Some of my favorites to this day. I remember going to the movies with him every Friday because that was really the only thing to do in town. I remember staying up on the phone all night, talking about everything, and us both insisting that we fall asleep on the phone for whatever reason. I remember many nights spent with the Martin's. Watching movies, eating pizza, trying to be sneaky and failing most of the time. Mary and Eric were so sweet to me, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I don't think I know enough words to fully capture Tyler, he gave me so much unconditional love and support. He grew into such a kind, gentle, compassionate, empathetic, funny, respectful man. He would probably hate that I'm writing this, but I could probably fill a whole book with the memories I have of him. I don't think he knew how loved and how important he was to the people in his life. Rest in Peace Tyler <3

Tyler was an amazing guy to work with and talk to. I was able to work 3 or 4 shows with him over the years. Both him and I started out as additionals on a couple shows and it was great to see him working his way up in his department as I was in mine. He always smiled and took on new challenges with a smile on his face. He never wanted to let anyone down. He helped me when I was starting to get responsibility and we helped each other whenever we could. I'll always remember him as coworker and even more as a friend.

Tyler and I worked on Dynasty just shortly ago. Just him and I rigging sprinklers for water. He was kind, positive, extremely friendly, and awesome to be around. I am truly going to miss his kind demeanor and positive energy. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Tyler was our neighbor and so sweet! Always smiling, always happy to greet us, always great to talk to!

I became friends with Tyler while working on Ozark last year. I always saw him with a smile on his face, great attitude, always had something funny to say, and I enjoyed the conversations we had. I was lucky to know him the short time I did. My heart goes out to the Martin family.
