Carlo Emanuele Calandra

Carlo Emanuele Calandra, 92, of Virginia Beach, VA, and formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Gemma Calandra.

Born on July 22, 1932, in Melizzano, Italy, Carlo was the son of the late Giovanni and Maria Consiglia (Zarrelli) Calandra.

Carlo built a life grounded in hard work, family, and faith. He retired after many dedicated years of service with General Electric. Known for his strong work ethic and generous heart, Carlo also found joy in the simple pleasures of life — gardening, especially his fabulous roses, watching WWE wrestling, and most of all, spending time with his cherished grandchildren.

He is survived by his two sons: Robert Calandra and his wife Sigrid of Virginia Beach, VA, and Joseph Calandra and his wife Gina of Southington. Carlo was a proud and loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Dominic, Carla Gemma, Paula, Gemma, Laura and Sophia.

He also leaves behind two brothers, Filiberto and Egidio Calandra, both of Gloversville, NY; and two sisters, Michelina D’Errico of Avon and Emilia DeCiccio of Gloversville, NY. Carlo was predeceased by two brothers, Michele and Giuseppe Calandra, and a sister, Maria Zarrelli. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday June 28th at 9 AM at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. He will be laid to rest next to his late wife Gemma in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass from 7:30-8:30 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
