

He was born in New Haven on Oct. 20, 1929, the son of the late Frank and Phyllis (Borgazzi) Onofrio. Carmine was a US Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean War. He was the State Commander of the Disabled American Veterans for 2004-2005 and a member of the American Legion. Carmine was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family was his first love.
Carmine was a professional drummer and loved big band music. He also was a diehard NY Yankee and Giants fan.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his loving children Dr. Sandra Rosser and husband Sean of RI, Francis L. Onofrio and wife Molly of Kensington, and Larry J. Onofrio and wife Cathy of Portland, 5 cherished grandchildren Ryan Shanahan and wife Jennifer, Dylan Rosser, Emily and Madeline Onofrio and Daniel Onofrio and a great granddaughter Ryleigh Rose Shanahan. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Frank Onofrio and a sister Mary Ann Sheldrake.
The funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Aloysius Church at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
