Meriden- Clinton Gustave Knell, 69, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, after a noble battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Ann (Bagnaschi) Knell for 49 years.
Born in Meriden on August 16, 1937, the son of the late Gustave and Mary (Neville) Knell. In 1967 he founded Knell's Carpet Service, which is currently under the operation of his son, Gary. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Meriden and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of simplicity, an admirer of nature and an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies included fishing, sailing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, and in his retirement he discovered the joy of golfing and kayaking. Time spent at his cabin in Newbury and Brattleboro, Vermont further connected him to his family and nature which were the two most important elements in his life. It gave him great pride to teach his children and grandchildren all that he knew about his many interests. His ultimate passion was family gatherings reminiscing over a hearty, home-cooked meal. Clint, a.k.a. "Brud" and "Poppy", will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he touched.
In addition to his cherished wife he leaves his loving children, Cindy Simone and her husband Greg of Southington, Clinton Gary Knell and his wife Mary of East Hartford, and Crystal Sullivan and her husband Ken of Plantsville, his treasured grandchildren, Danielle, Kimberly and Shannon; his caring siblings, Mary Ann Gilman and her husband Larry, Jane Pevich and her husband Ed, and Chester Knell and his wife Nancy; sister-in-law Phyllis Bagnaschi; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Tyler Simone and brother-in-law Edward Bagnaschi.
The funeral will be held on Monday June 25, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Goodwill Ave, Meriden, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Our Lady of Mt Carmel School, 109 Goodwill Ave, Meriden, CT 06451 or CT Hospice of Branford.
