

Dix Hills, NY - David Milne McKeown, a long time resident of Dix Hills, N.Y., passed away peacefully with his family in attendance at the Jerome Home in New Britain, CT on July 16, 2011. He was 88 years old. He was born in Hudson, N.Y. August 5, 1923 and attended the University of Alabama for two years before enlisting in the Army. He was a member of the 1346th Combat Engineers and saw action at Okinawa and was stationed in Japan during the post-war occupation. He finished his education at Columbia University majoring in Business in 1947.
His career was in the insurance brokerage industry, retiring from Marsh and McClennan in 1986. He was President of the New York Underwriters Association in 1962 and was active in that organization.
David was an active member in the Flushing (NY) Unitarian Church as well as the Huntington (NY) Unitarian Fellowship. He was a recreational tennis player and golfer and was a skilled woodworker. He designed and built a summer cottage (Sunfish Cove) on Charleston Lake, Ontario, Canada, where he and his family enjoyed guests and visiting with other members of the Huntington Unitarian community.
In later life he found an interest in painting, participating in classes and exhibitions at the Art League of Long Island. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY.
His wife of 62 years, Mildred, preceded him in January. He is survived by three children, David Jr. (Pittsburgh), Susan (Cheshire, Ct), and Cynthia (Boston) and one grandson, Matthew (Los Angeles).
A celebration of life service will be held on Aug. 19, 2011 at 2:15 p.m. in the community room of the Arbor Rose Assisted Living at the Jerome Home, 975 Corbin Ave., New Britain.
