Denise M. (Ouellette) Berkmoes, 73, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. She was the beloved wife of Robert Berkmoes.
Born on April 6, 1952, in Hartford, she was the daughter of Lorraine (D’Efemia) Ouellette of Southington and the late Reno Ouellette. A lifelong Connecticut resident, Denise was a devoted parishioner of St. Aloysius Church and a warm, caring presence in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Denise had a deep love for animals, especially her cats, and found joy in the quiet pleasures of reading and crocheting. Her greatest joy, however, was her family—especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
In addition to her husband Robert and her mother Lorraine, she is survived by her son Nathan Berkmoes and his wife Christine of Southington, and her daughter Andrea Berkmoes of Southington. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kaylin, Savannah, Lee Michael, Abigail, and Brianna. She also leaves behind two brothers, Joseph and John Ouellette, both of Southington; her identical twin sister, Romona Hurle of East Hampton and sister Mary Bisson of Oakville along with many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Victoria.
Denise will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and the love she shared so freely with all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4th from 3-6 PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
