

Edward G. Whalen, 86, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at The Pines at Bristol, after a brief illness. Ed was the loving and devoted husband of Marie (Plourde) Whalen. For the past sixty-one years they were inseparable. He was the son of the late Edwin G. and Madeline (Oliver) Whalen. Ed retired in 1996, after 36 years of service, from Stanley Works as an IT Programming Manager. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953 to 1956. Watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and UConn Women’s basketball teams was one of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his wife Marie, Ed is survived by his loving children Steven Sr. and Patricia Whalen, Michael Whalen, and Andrew (A.J.) and Amy Whalen. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Anna (Whalen) and Christopher Cornett, Steven Jr. and Alicia Whalen, Kylie Whalen, and Kristen Whalen & fiancée Colin Cassidy; a cherished great-granddaughter Juliana Cornett. He is also survived by his sisters Beverly Carroll and Pauline (Polly) O’Brien and brother Michael Whalen, all of Maine. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kelly Marie Whalen, a sister, Barbara Ferring, and a brother, John Whalen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at 11am at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St. Plantsville. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to services, 9-10:30am at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT.
