Florence E. Smith (Betty), 75 passed away peacefully at The Summit of Plantsville on April 19, 2013, after a long illness. Born August 1, 1937 in Southington, CT, she was the only child of the late Florence M. Lombardo and Norman Rice. She was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas Church, Thomaston, CT for many years. She leaves behind two daughters and their partners in Connecticut: Pamela B. Leone and Leon Guillmette of Plainville and Anne M. Leone and Rafael Pinot of Wallingford. A daughter in Italy: Lisa H. Leone and Betty's special daughter Sabrina Tregambi (Milan, Italy) and a son , Mario J. Leone Jr. of Port Orange FL. Besides her children she leaves behind the father of her children and friend Mario J. Leone Sr. and her beloved dog Denver.
Betty will be remembered most for her passion for cooking, knitting and crocheting, mystery novels, gardening, her hummingbird bird feeders, Bingo #37, coffee, PGA Golf, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and especially for her devotion to the Blessed Mother and Saint Maximillian Kolbe. Her trips to Maine and New Hampshire with her daughters and dogs Magi, Kali, Dakota and Sparkie are treasured memories. Her sense of humor was never lacking and will be missed immensely. We cherish her memory and all that encompasses it including her love of music with Alabama, Liberace, Eddie Arnold, Al Martino, Jim Reeves and Engelbert Humperdinck who kept her company on Saturdays while she cleaned the house. She loved the crisp autumn days which brought cool temperatures, falling leaves, country fairs, and candy apples. She was a great lover of chocolate and was never far from a Butterfinger, Hershey miniatures or chocolate ice cream and always found time for her McDonald's Happy Meal with a chocolate milkshake or coke! A special thank you goes to The Summit of Plantsville nurses and aides who cared for her so lovingly. She is loved and will be missed beyond measure: ?God's Speed to You Mom?
