

Born in Southington on June 21, 1929, the son of the late George F. and Anna (Galiette) Simone. He was a 1948 graduate of Lewis High School in Southington. He was a member of the Army Air Corps stationed in Korea, and selected by the Army to attend Presidio in San Francisco. He was a member of the Southington Police Department for twenty-seven years retiring as Police Captain in 1984. He was the 2nd Southington Officer to attend the FBI National Academy (93rd Session Charlie Company) in Quantico, VA. He was a member of the Southington P.B.A., Police Association of Connecticut, American Legion Kiltonic Post #72 and ?Gang Scarpa Shoda?. He also was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Southington. In his retirement, George will be fondly remembered as a party planner for family events, a breakfast connoisseur and a frequent visitor to local tag sales. His family was the center of his universe and his generosity and gigantic heart had no bounds.
George aka ?Sarge? and ?Poppy? was the ?true patriarch? of the family. His strength and perseverance will never be forgotten; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife he leaves his loving children, George Simone and his wife Barbara of Rockledge, Florida; Gregory Simone and his wife Cindy of Southington; Gary Simone and his wife Christine of Southington; Gerilyn Simone of Southington; and Gayle Ambrose and her husband, Michael of Southington. Ten treasured grandchildren: Ricky, Carissa, Katie, Erica, Danielle, Amber, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Ryan and Brandon, and two adored great grand children- Shane and Keighly; and two special sisters Rosalyn Manware of Cheshire and Jean Kirychuk of Southington and sister-in-laws Dorothy Testa of Southington and Mary Ann Quinn of Warwick, RI.
In addition- many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts complete the extended family. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Simone, stepmother Lillian (Puffe) Simone, and grandson Matthew Tyler Simone.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ruggiero (Waterbury) and Dr. Ralph Prezioso (Southington) for all their attentive care and concern. Special thanks to St. Mary?s Hospice (VITAS) staff for all their loving compassion and care in his last days. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made in his memory to the Southington Police Benevolent Association, 69 Lazy Lane, Southington, CT 06489.
The funeral will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
