Lit a candle in memory of George B. Johnson

I have been blessed to know Chris for the past decade.  He was a kind and gentle man.  He loved his family and was very proud of their many accomplishments.    

He and Elsie were very always very happy and their love for one another seemed effortless.  We shared many wonderful holidays together in Westchester, in Bristol and at the Summit.  

During one Thanksgiving dinner at our home, about 5 years ago, he played the drums for us - displaying as much passion as a young teenager.  He also challenged us to a ping pong game, winning points from all of us.  On another holiday gathering, about 6 years ago, he joined us for a golf putting match at the Knollwood CC - sinking 15' putts.  He loved life and enjoyed his family.

He left us with many heartfelt memories -- I shall always remember the night of my wedding at the Metropolitan Club, Chris danced the night away, mingling with all the guests.  His smile was as big as the Harvest Moon that evening.  His passing on the Blue Moon was only fitting - as he was a very special man.

His service today was beautiful.  The sun shined brightly and the sky was a gorgeous blue.  He will always have a place in my heart,.  After all, he gave me Neil and for that I am forever grateful.

We are here today to honor a wonderful man.  But before we do, let us honor a wonderful woman: Elsie Pinette Johnson.  Elsie, we are so grateful to have you as part of the family and we thank you for the love and devotion that you showed Dad.  From the beginning, you brought a smile to his face, a spring to his step and comfort and confidence to his life.   We also thank all of your family for being there for him and accepting him as a cherished member of your family.

Thank you and we love you all.

Recalling the circumstances, that day, if living in the Northeast, the skies opened and roared and poured the millions of tears before we could know, and then opened in sunshine to celebrate his life.  A full moon followed, a blue moon actually - rare, somewhat unique, just like him - as if the universe was spotlighting his ascendance.  

We have lost a great man. We say goodbye with sadness and heavy hearts.  But we also celebrate his life and his passing into the arms of God. 

I want to share 3 things that I witness to be the truth of my Dad: the things he stood for, the things he taught us, the way he lived.

- Love and take care of yourself and your family and your friends, with all of your worth. 

- Do something productive, or many things if possible, every day.   And when you do - do it with attention, with pride and with all the skill and energy that you can muster. 

- Be honest, be truthful, be humble.

We love you. We will remember you   We will miss you.  You are our hero.  

May God accept your soul and bless us all in your memory.  We will keep you alive with the same spirit and connection.

Your father was a wonderful man .  While my father was dying of cancer at Ingraham Manor nursing home ; over the course of one year , your father was the only person to visit my father , on a consistent , weekly schedule . Every visit , your father would stay for hours . On my father's good days , they would chat and laugh about the good old days.
On my father's bad days , when he was sick or disorientated from treatments or medications , your father would sit by his side silently , just letting my father , see and know , that he had a friend who cared. I have the greatest respect for your father.
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to the entire , extended Johnson family.

Long ago, we were neighbor's of Mr. Johnson. He was a patient man to all of us kids running up & down the streets. As a little girl I always thought he was handsome sand a TV dad. He was always dressed so nice and had nice kids. As I grew older, I appreciated his gentle manners and kindness. My heart goes out to the family, keep your memories and share them.
