James Clair Lewis, 72, of Southington passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. Jim was born May 25, 1950, in Buffalo, NY, and was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (McAllister) Lewis. Jim was a sheet metal fabricator by trade, spending the majority of his career working for Morin Corporation in Bristol, and Colonial Blower Co. in Plainville. His expertise in sheet metal, coupled with his love of auto racing, brought him to his favorite job/hobby of designing and making parts for many local race cars. He was proud to see “Lewis Sheet Metal” displayed on many cars as they raced throughout the Northeast. After retiring from the sheet metal business, Jim devoted his time to his second passion - buying and selling antiques and “junk”, as he loved to say. He loved going to tag sales and flea markets, both buying and selling his treasures.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer Amalfa, and husband Timothy of Middletown. His absolute pride and joy were his two granddaughters, Skye and Morgan Amalfa both of Middletown. He leaves behind a sister, Sally Repec, and husband Joseph of Stuart, FL, sister-in-law Dawn Mencio and husband Raymond of Wolcott, and sister-in-law Sandra Membrino of Wolcott. Jim was so lucky to have many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews who he went out of his way to keep in touch with and to connect with despite the distances. The sheer number of dear friends that Jim had all over the world is a testament to the person he was, and he will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Services for James will be celebrated privately with his family. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements. For online condolence please visit, www.dellavecchiasouthington.com
