

Born in Elizabeth City, NC on July 11, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Maggie Ann (Turner) Davis. While living in Elizabeth City, she was a member of the Mt. Lebanon AME Zion Church and the Eastern Star. In Waterbury she was a pillar of the Mt. Olive AME Zion Church where she was past president of the Usher Board and a choir member.
She worked at the residence of the Brothers of Holy Cross in Waterbury.
Jessie Mae leaves 8 sons, Oliver (Barbara) Gibson of Temecula, CA, John (Margaret) Gibson of Prospect, Charles (Charlotte) Gibson of Wolcott, Howard (Mattie) Gibson of Waterbury, James (Mable) Gibson of Brea, CA, Nathan (Henrietta) Gibson, Herman Gibson and Francis (Mary) Gibson all of Waterbury, 23 grandchildren 28 great- grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, George Davis of Waterbury, and Elwood Davis of Elizabeth City, NC, 3 sisters Patricia Overton of Allentown, PA, Thelma Lewis and Marion Shannon both of Waterbury, and several generations of nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son Roosevelt Gibson Jr. and five brothers Walter, William, James, Caldwell and Charlie Davis.
The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to her primary care giver Ethlyn Francis as well as Diane Coombs.
Jessie Mae's life will be celebrated at a Funeral Service on Tuesday at 11 AM at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church, 82 Pearl St., Waterbury followed by burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
Family will receive condolences on Tuesday before the service beginning at 9 AM.
