

He was born Nov. 19, 1931 in NY, New York, son of the late Joseph and Sarah Abate. He retired 25 years ago from Pratt & Whitney and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He had been a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, John Abate and his wife Kathleen of Plainville and Mark Abate of Southington, a brother Al Abate of New Jersey, a sister Connie Manteria of New York. He also leaves two grand children, Jennifer LeBrun and her husband Gregory, and Theresa Abate all of Bristol, 2 great grandchildren, Farah and Brody LeBrun, and several nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by a daughter JoAnn M. Testa and 3 brothers, Peter, Carmine and John.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Touchpoints at Farmington for their outstanding and loving care to Joseph and his family.
A graveside service will be held Friday Aug 31, at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, 317 Bow Lane, at 11 a.m. with Military Honors. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St.
