Born on February 6, 1931, in New Haven, CT, Lois was the daughter of the late Louis and Grace (Foley) Lassen. She was the devoted wife of the late Christian Kohler, with whom she shared a loving marriage beginning in May of 1952.
Lois dedicated much of her early life to raising her five children. A hardworking and compassionate woman, she was employed for several years as a switchboard operator at SNET before returning to the workforce as a retail clerk at Sears, where she worked for many more years. A woman of deep faith, Lois was a communicant at St. Joan of Arc Church in Hamden, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Her strong spiritual life led her to volunteer at the Clelian Center in Hamden, where she offered her time and heart to those in need.
Lois had a zest for life and a love of activity. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid runner and completed the New York City Marathon in 1989. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and particularly treasured family gatherings, especially at Christmastime.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Christine Kaliszewski, Colleen Combs, Kathleen Balko, and Kimberly Tedesco. Lois also leaves behind ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Christian, her sister Barbara Mondo, her daughter Lisa Heaney and her grandson Joseph Balko.
Lois will be remembered as a sweet, kind-hearted woman who put family and faith above all else. Her legacy of love, resilience, and devotion lives on in those who were fortunate to know her.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
