

Lucas (“Luca”, “Luc”), 24, of Berlin, formerly of Southington, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2022 at Hartford Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. “Luca” was born in New Britain on January 30, 1998 and was the only child of Joseph and Carol Vernale.
He attended Southington Schools and Graduated from Southington High School in 2016. Lucas also attended CCSU from 2016 to 2020. At the time of his passing, he was employed as a sales representative for Momentum Solar. An expert skier since the age of 3, Lucas loved to ski on his favorite trails in Killington, VT. He loved to cook, spend time with his large, loving extended family, loved to play Jeopardy with his mom and dad, and won most of the time. He also loved growing up on Doe Meadow Court in Southington with our wonderful neighbors. Those who knew Luc, described him as a loyal, loving man, kind to everyone. He had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. He also loved to make people laugh and loved to get together for family dinners.
Besides his parents, Luc is survived by his Miniature Schnauzer, Pearly and many aunts and uncles. They include, Anthony Vernale of Berlin, CT, Lorraine and Tony Mielec of Farmington, John and Maureen Vernale of Seneca, NC, Ron and Roxanne Moisuk of Lakeland, FL, Kathleen and David Driver of Meriden, CT, John Moisuk and Mary Pardee of Meriden, CT; cousins Rachel and Matthew Sweeney of Unionville, CT, Alex Driver and Priya Bhatnagar of Brooklyn, NY, Toby Driver of Meriden, CT, Mary Tess and Bang Tran of Meriden, CT and a large extended family of second cousins in CT, NY and FL. He also had a large circle of treasured friends including his “second family”, Lynn and Jim Coleman of Southington and their children Jim, Bob, Hanna, Ava and Tessa, friends of Cameron Nelson (“Nelly”), David Smelley, Will Smelley and best friend, Senton Dautllari, This whole family is heartbroken by the loss of Luc at this time.
Lucas was predeceased by his paternal grandparents John and Sally Vernale, and also by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Mary Moisuk, and also by his beloved miniature schnauzers, Harley and Spike.
Calling hours for Luc will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. A Celebration of Life will happen on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucas’ memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111. The Vernale family wishes to thank the Coleman family for their loving support, and to the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregations of Southington, Berlin and Newington for their comfort and encouragement. They lovingly remind us that we will see Lucas again very soon.
