

Born in Waterbury on October 12, 1938 he was the son of the late Roland and Eva (Landry) Lafontaine. He served in the US Army. He worked as a circulation director for the New Britain Herald and the Waterbury Republican.
Marcel was also an owner operator of several businesses including: Terry’s Joke Shop, Unusual Gift Shops, Time Crafters, and Mar-Ken Woodcrafters. He was a member of the Waterbury Elk’s Lodge and the Franco American Club.
Marcel was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. Anne Church in Waterbury. He was a Eucharistic minister, an usher, a member and president of The Holy Name Society, and was the assistant member in charge of the bingo. He ran raffles, dances and countless other events raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for his parish. He received the St. Joseph Medal from The Archdiocese of Hartford and was Waterbury’s French Mayor for the Day.
Besides his wife Marcel is survived by his children, David and his wife Lisa Lafontaine, Diane and her husband Robert Gorman, Paul Lafontaine, Marcel R. Lafontaine, his brothers Leo and his wife Helena Lafontaine, Andre Lafontaine, and a sister-in-law, Lena Lafontaine. He also cherished his seven grandchildren Cassie, Kelsie, Amber and Robert Gorman Jr., Paul Lafontaine Jr., Desiree and Hannah Lafontaine, and four great grandchildren, Madison, Aubree, Joshua and Cecilia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Roger and sister-in-law Rosemarie Lafontaine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 19th at 10 AM at The Shrine of St. Anne 515 S. Main St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Marcel’s family will receive condolences Tuesday morning at the church beginning at 9:30 AM and immediately after the Mass.
