Martha Marie LaBrie

Martha “Marty” Marie (Mekkelsen) LaBrie, 79, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the loving and devoted wife of John LaBrie.

Born on August 26, 1946, in New Britain, Marty was the daughter of the late Fred Mekkelsen Jr. and Martha (Lemieux) Mekkelsen. She made her home in Southington, where she built a life centered on family, creativity, and service to her community.

Marty dedicated 20 years as a paraprofessional with the Southington Board of Education, where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience and caring spirit. She had a deep love for the arts and participated in many art classes at the Southington Calendar House and SoCCA. Art was truly a cornerstone of her life, and she especially enjoyed painting and capturing special moments through photography.

Above all, Marty cherished her family. In addition to her beloved husband John, she is survived by her three daughters, Kristen LaBrie and Kendra LaBrie, both of Southington, and Nicole Evanko and her husband Bill of Stratford; her five grandsons, Kilian, Dane, and Cole LaBrie, and Drew and Derek Evanko; her brother, Stephen Mekkelsen and his partner Paula of Lebanon; along with several nieces and nephews and her cherished longtime friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred “Skip” Mekkelsen III.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Southington. Burial will be held privately with her family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Marty’s name to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
