Michael Schweitzer December 9, 1923 ? October 4, 2011 Michael Schweitzer, 87, of Southington, Connecticut passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial surrounded by his family. Born December 9, 1923 in Homolicz, Yugoslavia, he was the son of the late Viktor and Teresa Schweitzer. Together with his wife, eldest son, and mother-in-law, Michael emigrated from Austria to the United States in 1950. He worked with the Fafnir Bearing Company for thirty years, during which time he received international patents for his work. Following retirement, Michael and his wife split their time between their home in Southington and their beloved cottage on Jack Lake in Apsley, Ontario, Canada, where they were able to reconnect with dear old friends from Europe. He leaves his companion of ten years, Barbara Mongillo, three children, Walter K. Schweitzer and his wife Joan of Avon, Connecticut; Michael K. Schweitzer of Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida; and Linda S. King and her husband Steven of Union, Connecticut. He adored his three grandchildren ? Emma Schweitzer, Eric Schweitzer, and Logan King, who will miss their Opa?s smile. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Maria. The family wishes to give special thanks to Barbara Mongillo, who cared for him during his final years. A private viewing and visitation for Michael?s family and close friends will be held on Friday, October 7th at 11:00am, followed by a brief service at 12:00noon at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Southington.
