Oneil (Neil) Bouchard lost his heroic battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home.
Born 1938 to the late Adelard and Evelyn (Martin) Bouchard in Wallagrass, Maine.
He leaves to mourn his passing, the love of his life, his devoted wife Jennie (Charette) Bouchard and his treasured and most loved children, Richard (Laurie) Bouchard of Cobalt, CT, Linda (Larry) Robert of Marlborough, CT, Ross (Kristin) Bouchard of Effingham, NH and Todd (Arie) Bouchard of Den Haag, The Netherlands. His grandchildren Alan, Austin and Brittany and great- grandsons Jayden and Gavin. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Roy (Gene) Charette, uncles and many cousins. Neil was most happy when he was with his family and proclaimed that when he married, he was lucky to inherit a large loving family of cousins, who he treasured. He also leaves behind an aunt, Exelia Pelletier, who was like a second mom to him, those who were like sons to him in his heart, Ted Donahue, Larry Paterno, Pat DiMatteo, his former daughter-in-law Lisa Jones (who was a great help when he was beginning his medical trial), his wonderful neighbors and many friends.
He was predeceased by his loving in-laws, who loved him like a son, Willie and Emma (Pelletier) Charette and brother-in-law Nelson (Edwin) DuBois.
After retiring from CL&P and Grainger, he loved doing scrollsaw wood crafts and took great pride in showing his creations at craft fairs. Another one of his passions was riding his Honda Goldwing Motor Trike with his wife and going on rides with his children. He and his wife were fortunate to have traveled extensively, having visited 18 countries and 5 continents.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Anthony Ciardella for his wonderful care over all these years and his staff for their kindness and compassion and also to the wonderful staff on North 3 at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington, who treated him like he was their family.
The family would also like to express their deep thanks and appreciation to all their family, friends and acquaintances that were there for them during their 16 month battle with cancer. There are too many to mention, however your kindness, thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement, meals, the many cards you sent to make Neil smile, the beautiful emails that you sent to both of us, the unending help during winter storms, etc, never went unnoticed and never taken for granted. Thank you all so much. We are both so blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.
In lieu of flowers, Neil asks you to “spend some extra time with your family and tell someone how much they mean to you; life is too short to not express your feelings to those around you”.
Memorial calling hours will be on Thursday July 2 from 5-8 pm and from 8:30 am until 9:15 on Friday. The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church 99 Bristol St. at 10 a.m. Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
