

He was born on Oct. 19, 1948 in Bangor, ME, the son of Sarah "Betty" (Hersey) Walker and the late Edric F. Washburn. He grew up as a self-proclaimed farm boy, graduated from East Corinth Academy and served in the United States Army as an Artillery Gunner during the Vietnam War time. After his service he worked as a nursing aide in Southington bringing warm care and companionship to many. The greatest joy in his life was being a Papa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed telling them stories and teaching them how to cook. He spent many hours perfecting his homemade bread recipe and award winning chili. He enjoyed listening to music, watching documentaries, gardening and had a lifelong passion for animals.
In addition to his mother of Maine, he leaves two sons Robert Washburn of Thomaston and Jeffrey Washburn and his fiance Sarah of Wallingford, his cherished grandchildren Taylor, Shelby, Alexus, Camden, Tucker, Hudson, Ian, and Matthew. He also leaves brothers Randy, Timothy and Mark Washburn, Clint Walker and Tommy Wyman; sisters Joanie Washburn Clark,Carlena "Bunny" Bean, Laurie Voter Emery, Jeannelle Forsythe, and Ivy Beane. He was predeceased by sister Dotty Farrell and brothers Joseph Washburn, Chris and Clay Walker.
A graveside service, with Military honors will be held on Tuesday at 1 pm at South End Cemetery, South End Rd., Plantsville. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. is assisting with arrangements.
