

Polly was born 12/2/1938 in Pitt County, NC to parents John Powell & Eva Lewis Powell. Polly was a country girl growing up in Arapahoe, NC. After marrying the love of her life Roger, they settled in West Simsbury, CT where they raised their 3 daughters. Later they moved back to Arapahoe to spend their retirement years.
Polly and Roger were married 68 years and together they raised a beautiful family. When the children grew older, she started a business that she ran for 20 years. Family was the most important thing to her, and she had a way of making everyone feel special. She was the heart of the family and the glue that held everyone together. Polly had a beautiful, gentle soul, a peaceful, loving joy for living life, and a smile that could light up a room.
Polly enjoyed spending time outside. She loved gardening, shelling on the beach and traveling. She could never pass a thrift store without stopping to browse at her "favorite boutique" Polly was a spiritual woman and served as a Deacon at Bethany Christian Church. Many of her beautiful poems reflected her deep faith.
Polly leaves behind her loving husband, Roger Surprenant; 3 daughters, Renee Midyette, Diane Winkler (Richard), Beth Morris (Steven); 10 Grandchildren, Eric Morris (Wendy), Kelly Mrozik (Joe), Amanda Bailey (Steven), Nicole LaFogg (Dave), Jill Winkler (Dylan), Sarah Midyette (Cody), Lee Winkler, Matthew Morris, Michelle Cihlar (Erik), Allison Wald (Troy); 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Charles Powell (Maureen), sister Cindy Midyette, sister-in-law Josephine Fleming and several nieces and nephews. Polly was preceded in death by her parents John & Eva Powell, brother Jack Fleming, sister Mavis Williams and son-in-law Gregory Midyette.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3PM., Sunday April 13th at Grace Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St. Southington, CT. with the Rev. Carol Bloom and grandson Matthew Morris officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A second celebration of life will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, April 19th at Bethany Christian Church, 8126 NC Hwy. 306 S Arapahoe, NC with the Rev. Cindy Midyette and Rev. Merritt Watson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
