He was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada on October 15, 1943 to the late Conde and Almeida (Ringuette) Parent. He grew up in Madawaska, ME and raised his family with his wife, Joan, in Windsor, CT. It was recently that he had moved to Southington, CT.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964 as a Field Radio Repairman. After being honorably discharged, he furthered his interest by building a complete amateur radio, often boasting about having HAM radio contacts in 50 different countries, and even a phone patched to his sister-in-law (then residing in Cuba back in 1968). Robert worked in the IT department within the banking industry for 30 years, and then at The Phoenix for 10 years before retiring.
Robert traveled the world with his wife, Joan, collecting hats from each country they visited together. They also spent many Saturday nights dancing at various French Clubs in CT. He loved going on family vacations camping in a tent (never a camper), and enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a neighborhood favorite because he would construct a homemade ice skating rink for all to enjoy. Each fall he and his family would take memorable trips to Hamilton Orchards. When he wasn’t spending time with his wife or family, he enjoyed motorcycle rides with his buddies on his Honda Goldwing, even riding as far as New Mexico (his furthest trip ever). At home, he enjoyed yard work and tinkering around the house, which he made many repairs and renovations to.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Teresa (Parent) Babon and her husband Christopher of Southington, and Cynthia (Parent) Mello and her partner Scott Kieras of Newington; his grandchildren Rachel and Jake Babon, Taylor Kilduff, and Jack Mello; his sisters Velma (Parent) Daigle, Denise (Parent) Soto and her husband Victor; his brother Daniel Parent and his wife Lucille; and his sisters-in-law Doris Noel, Candide Sedlik, Albertine Riley, and Germaine Cormier. He is predeceased by his sisters Florence (Parent) Tardiff, Patricia (Parent) Daigle, Bertha (Parent) Powley, and his brother Rosaire Parent.
He struggled with Multiple Sclerosis for 25 years but his family takes comfort knowing he is now at peace. His family would like to thank the team at Always There Home Care of Plainville, and specifically his home health aide, Candy, who helped brighten the days for Bob and Joan. Many thanks also goes to the E.D. staff at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington for their compassion during this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.
Funeral services will be held at a later date when social distancing directives have been withdrawn. DellaVecchia Funeral Home in Southington has been entrusted with arrangements. Please visit www.dellavecchiafh.com for online condolences
