

Roland Joseph Fortin Sr., 92, of Plantsville, beloved husband of the late Marie Jeannette (Seneschal) Fortin, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at home, with his loving family at his side. Roland was born on January 11, 1932, in Saint-Eusebe, Quebec, Canada, the eldest son of late Delphis and Amanda (Dionne) Fortin. He lived in Van Buren, Maine then moved to CT at the age of 15 for employment. While living in Southington, he met his future wife, Jeannette. They were married 71 years at the time of her death in 2022.
Roland had a long work history in CT, sometimes working 3 jobs, including employment at Atwater Manufacturing, Lori Engineering and was employed as a Maintainer for many years at DePaolo Middle School for the Southington Board of Education. Unfortunately, retiring sooner than expected due to a work-related injury. He was also a valued member of the staff of DellaVecchia Funeral Home for several years where he could be found greeting families and guests at the door or working various funeral services. Roland was a Lt. for the Marion Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. 4 for many years. Family was the center of his life. He was a doting grandfather and great grandfather and treasured the time with his children and extended family. He was an avid gardener who planted many items but could always be counted on for amazing rhubarb. He and his late wife loved to travel in their 38ft motor home as members of Outdoor World. They visited countless campgrounds over the years and made amazing friends in their travels. Roland and his wife were members of Faith Living Church in Plantsville where he was a greeter and volunteer for well over 20 years.
Roland is survived by his daughter; Rita (Ken) Paradis of FL, his son; Roland (Estelle) Fortin Jr. of VA, son; Michael (Kelly) Fortin Sr. of Plantsville, son; Paul (Roseann) Fortin Sr. of Plantsville, and son; Brian (John) Carter of FL. He is also survived by three sisters: Irene Strid, Joyce Zetterman and Camella Sirois. He also leaves behind to treasure his memory 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings, 3 grandchildren, and an infant son, William.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 5th at 11 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. His family will receive visitors prior to the service from 9 AM to 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved bride Jeannette.
