

Ronald J. Marut, 82, of Southington, passed away on May 15, 2024 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband to the late Elizabeth (Konicki) Marut with whom he spent 51 loving years.
Ronald was born on March 29, 1942 in New Britain, to the late John and Anne (Waiter) Marut. Ron retired from the Southington Board of Education as a school custodian for the former Plantsville Elementary School after 20 years of service. He was the former President and Owner of Shaw Belting Company in Middletown. Ron was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1669, Past President of the St. Dominic Church Men’s Club, Past President of the Holy Name Society at Sacred Heart Church, and also Past President of the Southington Kiwanis Club. Ronald was a retired Auxiliary Trooper for the Connecticut State Police Troop H. Ronald was a founding member of the Southington Education Foundation. He was also a member of the Southington Wetlands Committee, Planning and Zoning Committee, and Republican Town Committee.
Ronald’s favorite hobby was building model planes and classic cars. He enjoyed playing golf in the annual Dudack family Open and spending time with friends and family. He often shared his weekends with his grandchildren, teaching them valuable life lessons at a young age, and introducing them to his favorite activities. Ron/Grandpa/Uncle Ronnie was a hero to his family. He constantly gave advice and support when needed with his favorite line of “take one day at a time.” He was a jokester, history buff, and storyteller which made everyone smile and laugh, even on the tough days. Ron rescued many dogs and was happiest with a dog on his lap while he watched his Westerns. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses at MidState Medical Center for taking such good care of him.
Ronald is survived by his children; Suzanne Corarito and husband Terry of Plainville, Nancy Lambert and husband Jason of New Britain, his former son in law Scott Caswell of Farmington, his grandchildren; Storm Caswell and wife Casey McClintick-Sink, Logan Caswell, and Indianna Lambert, and his sister Joan Dudack and husband Leon of Windsor. He also leaves his devoted friend and partner Maryann Dumin of Southington, who he dearly loved and appreciated. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and his most recent furry family member, Cranberry Sauce. He was predeceased in death by his son, Ronald J. Marut Jr.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. The funeral cortege will process to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Britain. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Ronald’s memory to the Southington CT Police Department K9 Unit 69 Lazy Ln. Southington, CT 06489.
